Future First: helping schools to evidence the Gatsby Career Benchmarks

The Department for Education has adopted the Gatsby Benchmarks as a set of indicators to demonstrate the effectiveness of a school’s careers provision. From January 2018, schools are required to evidence how they are meeting each benchmark with their students.

How can our programme help?
We are helping our member schools to evidence their alignment with four of the benchmarks where alumni role models can be most relevant:

Benchmark 4: Linking curriculum learning to careers
Benchmark 5: Encounters with employers and employees
Benchmark 6: Experiences of workplaces
Benchmark 7: Encounters with further and higher education

As representatives from the world of work or academic institutions, alumni volunteers can be highly impactful role models, and introduce your students to the pathways open to them after school.

We will work with our member schools to help them deliver meaningful encounters between alumni and students which meet the objectives set out by the Gatsby Benchmarks. Through workshops, in-lesson sessions and one-to-one mentoring, Future First’s alumni programme can help schools to evidence how they are broadening student’s horizons and improving their life chances.
