If you want to support young people in schools, particularly those who are disadvantaged, then this could be the job for you. Future First is the UK charity that connects state school pupils with former students (alumni) to show them a future that can be theirs. Hearing stories from past pupils builds confidence and gives students the motivation to study – as well as showing them the many paths to success. Our new technology also gives students a network of volunteers, signed up to help them with advice and guidance.
We are growing and have an Alumni Programme Manager vacancy, working with schools and partners in London and the South. Alumni Programme Managers are our front line workers supporting schools, volunteers and young people. You’ll be joining an amazing and friendly team, with the opportunity to support young people, develop your own ideas, grow your skills, take on projects, specialisms and responsibilities. You will help your schools and colleges to build and use their former student networks to support today’s pupils, with workshops and talks, as governors and fundraisers, mentors and much more. You will also reach out to new schools and businesses to raise the profile of our work, build more partnerships, sell our programmes and grow our pool of school members.
Given your patch and the location of our current member schools, being within easy reach of either London or the South would be ideal though the role does cover a wide geographic spread as we continue to grow. We are predominantly home working with memberships of co-working spaces you can use to suit yourself. We have regular face-face team and staff meetings too, so you’ll feel part of a team and can learn from and enjoy time with colleagues.
We would particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of the communities we serve. We are an equal opportunities employer committed to social justice and supporting a diverse workforce.
To join us, you will need:
- a passion for social justice;
- the ability to influence and win others to your way of thinking;
- experience of working with schools and young people (ideally through facilitating engaging activity);
- good communication skills;
- strong organisational skills;
- and an interest in working across the breadth of a small charity,
- to be comfortable, confident and excited by sales and business development to help us extend reach and impact.
In return, we offer you a supportive working environment with plenty of learning and development opportunities, flexibility to manage your own diary, good terms and conditions, a generous annual leave package (starting at 28 days plus bank holidays and increasing with each year of service). You’ll work with dedicated, determined colleagues and witness the tangible difference our work makes to young people’s lives. We live by our values of social justice, collaboration, innovation and role models.
At this time, we would particularly welcome applications from Black, Black British, Caribbean and African candidates, as they are under-represented in our organisation. We are always keen to hear from individuals who attended state school and were in receipt of free school meals and/or were the first in their family to go to university. We would also welcome applications from a Welsh speaker to support our work in Wales.
If our values resonate with you and you are excited by what we do, we would love to hear from you!
Applications will close on at 9.00am on Monday 8th August 2022.
